JUST A THOUGHT

It is eleven minutes past twelve midnight. I am here alone sitting on my couch. I am not alone in the sense that I live alone. I have family. I am probably the lone wolf, the one not talked about.  I understand this. They do not mean me harm but it is all because they do not understand me.
Yes. It is as simple as that.  I work differently to others. What strikes others may not have an effect on me, yet something such as a word or a thought might send me into a spiral. I will not ever explain to those close to me how I work. Do not get me wrong, I have tried. They are all amazing to me and for me.
I need outlets that others do not. I can drink some wine or other alcohol beverage and I see stories, fantasies that others want to share yet unless we are in the same stratosphere, all is lost.
Do not get me wrong. I am on no account saying that alcohol is needed for what I am endorsing. I am saying that your opinion is so different from others that you must take a step back and read. Read what is put in front of you and think.
Think what is being said, it may not be what you want to hear, but it may be the thing you wanted to read, or as they say, it may be the RIGHT thing you needed to hear. But you cannot be seen to agrree with.  Is it an alien being or a washed up remains on a local strand?
Whatever, be safe and be that friend that others need.

  1. "I will not ever explain to those close to me how I work" - I think this goes for a lot of creative people. Understanding that there is no way you actually can so they'd see or imagine the processes in your mind is a journey that may hold some frustration at times, initially. The older I get, the more I tend to think it's alright, though, and just move on, glass of wine in hand late in the evenings on my couch with my laptop open and my current work in front of me while everyone else sleeps...

  2. my wife asked me the other day if I'd still write if I won the lottery. I decided my previous efforts to explain have not worked...

  4. A thought-provoking piece, Mary. I think non-writers are fascinated and baffled in equal measure with the process we're embroiled in. Hey, once we're 'happy', right? Keep up the wonderful work. x

  7. Nice piece, Mary. Tight, concise, and something most writer's and their families/friends will understand.
