5 Sentence Fiction.

Each week, Lillie McFerrin shares a writing prompt, challenging writers to use the prompt BUT there is a rule. The fiction piece must be only 5 sentences long.
This weeks prompt is VILLAINOUS.
Below is my take on this writing prompt, I hope you enjoy.

I never liked him, he was the most obnoxious, detestable, unpleasant, depraved individual I had the misfortune to meet. Living in the apartment below him was hell, he never cared for my sleeping, always playing wild music until sunrise. He constantly borrowed coffee, cigarettes and even pizza, yes, Pizza! Meeting him on the stairwell, he would grunt as he pushed passed me, not caring if he knocked me to the ground.
It did not stop me from falling in love with him.

5 Sentence Fiction

Every week, the Lillie McFerrin website gives a writing prompt, usually accompanied with a photograph. The only rule is it must be 5 sentences long.
I have enjoyed this challenge before but let it slide, now I hope to return to it again this year.

The prompt word for this week is ABANDON
Here is my offering, enjoy.

The smoke covered walls blackened and dirty stood accusingly. I didn't mean for the fire to kill anyone. It was a harmless prank that went wrong. I only wanted to be noticed, no-one ever took notice of me. Now, now I have to abandon my plans that would have made me popular.

THE REVEALING GIFT
Ethel had survived another year, another Christmas dinner. How long more could she get away without having to reveal it? They were always asking questions. The praise and the compliments were lovely but she did feel a little embarrassed. Ethel, shook her head, it was silly to think she wouldn’t be found out. Yet she had done it again! How many years was it now?
Sharing the Season of Goodwill with her children and their families was thrilling but tiring. Tonight in her own home she sat by the window, alone again after the hustle of the festive season. Her family had now returned to their own corners, scattered by the winds of this world. But she knew that next year the request would once more be raised.
She thought of her Tommy, and looked up into the inky night sky, dotted with sparkling stars.
“A frosty one tonight, Mo,” she said to the black sleek bundle of fur on her lap.
Mo purred contentedly.
The stars twinkled. Ethel recalled her mother saying they were little portholes and our loved ones in Heaven peeped out of them to watch over us. Winking down at us they were. She loved her mother’s stories, always creating a world of wonder for Ethel and her siblings. She said a soft prayer for her mother. Ethel believed she was watching over her, she missed her and her husband, Tommy.
Her Tommy too would be looking down on her and laughing at this silly worry she carried each Christmas. It was silly, she knew that, but what would her children think? Say? Ethel liked being the best mother ever in their eyes. Would that change?
Tommy was the first to discover her secret. Teasing her, he threatened to tell the kids each time she would scold him for sneaking a quick puff out in the garden shed.
“Memories, oh the memories,” she whispered to the silent room.
Moving over to the fireside, she dropped Mo onto the sofa. The cat stretched at the disturbance and scowled at Ethel. She poured and sipped a mellow sherry, a gift from next door; Ethel needed to sort her dilemma once and for all. Therefore the clock ticked, the fire died down and she had finished her drink when she thought of it. Simple, so simple!
“C’mon Mo, it’s time for bed.”
***
Placing three envelopes out on the kitchen table the following morning, Ethel set to work. The same letter to each of her children, the secret they all longed to know. It would be her Christmas gift to each of them next year.
Sealing each envelope, she tucked them away in a drawer, to be opened next Christmas when they returned to their homes.  How disappointing it would be, when they read the recipe for her stuffing, – two cups of breadcrumbs and two packets of readymade stuffing from the supermarket, any brand will do!
Ethel chuckled, already looking forward to the next festive dinner.

Five Sentence Fiction.

The prompt for this weeks five sentence fiction is CLUTCH.
Below is my take on the prompt and if you want to read more great five sentence stories follow the link here to find them.

CLUTCH

Her white crystal studded clutch bag was a present from him, the sharp scissors within it hers. The bag was his way of saying sorry. Sorry he was caught cheating she reckoned. She breathed easier now that she had dealt with the issue and clutched the expensive bag closer to her, its sparse contents surprising if anyone should take a look. Still she would love to see his face when he saw the alterations she did to his designer suits before she left him.

Happy writing !

Normality Returns, hurray

Today I return to normality, well what is normality for me at least. For the next three days I shall enjoy my regular routine, after that it is off on the road again until September. It has been awhile since I have had the opportunity to put pen to paper due to other commitments, family and otherwise. I got to my library this morning where I penned these few words and oh boy does it feel good. I feel refreshed and eager to go with so much trapped inside me aching to get out. It is a shame my fingers cannot keep up with my thoughts. It also brought home to me how much we are creatures of habit. Take shopping for example, (what has this to do with writing I hear you ask?) well, nothing but stick with me and I shall explain. When you go to the supermarket, everyone starts in the same aisle and go around a certain route of the shop. I wanted to be different so I started at the further side of the shop and oh God was it a nightmare. It felt alien to walk against the flow plus it made me so disorientated that I had to start at the usual side before I finished. See, that’s what I mean we are creatures of habit. And like this morning my very presence in the library meant my fingers were dancing with joy to hit the keyboards. I never said what they wanted to say would be interesting after all they are a little rusty. So habit/normality call it what you will, oh the joys to be back in it. Happy writing !

Blackmail
He placed the gun barrel to the side of her head. He watched her shaking with fear, sweat and tears fell together on her face. Gently he caressed her wet cheek and she sensed his finger on the trigger moving slowly. Click, it was empty. He laughed at her and walked away.
